The 2023/24 growing season began in October and November 2023 with modest rainfall and a good mix of warm sunny days. December however saw considerable rainfall, with December and January’s combined rainfall approximately ten times more than the same time in 2022/23. In a complete turnaround, the end of Summer into Autumn was very dry, and experienced 46 straight days without rain from January 26, including a heatwave in February of four consecutive days at or above 37ºc
The 2024 Cloudy but Fine Chardonnay is made with high quality A graded fruit from a low yielding vineyard in the Adelaide Hills Lenswood GI. Hand picked fruit is left on skins for 4 hours before pressing on a slow champagne cycle (4hours). Wild fermentation in 100% New French oak using 6 different cooperages and left on lees un-sulphured for 9 months. Charlie stopped the winemaking process of stabilising the wine because it tasted so awesome he didn’t want the wines gorgeous notes to be lost. This is why the wine looks cloudy. Cloudy but Fine.
Such beautiful notes of ripe Candy Melon and the slightly minerally aromas of tinned apricots dance with perfumed freshly picked lemons, orange blossom and geranium. The mouthfeel is golden in texture with delights of glacé apricots, lime curd and pear and custard Danish and flavours linger seductively.
